Do I Really NEED Supplements?
Supplement = something that completes or enhances something else when added to it
Nutrition supplements SHOULD NOT replace healthy eating habits.
Nutrition supplements SHOULD NOT be your main concern with your health.
Nutrition supplements CAN be very effective with implemented appropriately.
With all that said, the easy thing to say would be "if you eat properly, you can get all your nutrients, vitamins, etc. from the food that you eat".
That's idealism. Even if someone eats "clean" 100% of the time, they're likely to be deficient with some macronutrients (i.e. protein), vitamins (A, B, C, D, E, K) and minerals (zinc, magnesium, etc.).
After working with over 1,000 people in my career, I can honestly say that taking a realist approach is the way to go and that people are going to need supplements, but you want to make sure that you're taking supplements that you NEED.
The best way to find this out is to consult with your doctor, get a blood panel done, then see where you're deficient, and connect with a nutritionist who has a very STRONG grasp on nutrition & the biochemistry that occurs with it.
Worst case scenario, start with a multi-vitamin and take it every day if you're not ready to go to your doctor and gather that information. Ensure that it is NSF, GMP, or informedchoice.org certified. These organizations ensure the integrity of the supplements that are put on the shelves.
